| | I used to think of love as this mysterious, sacred thing that happened only with a deep and mystical romantic soulmate connection. But the older I get, the more I realize that love is an everyday thing, like the noise of the coffeepot in the morning, or that song on the radio that you always sing along to.
It's not that perfect guy or perfect girl who is so good looking you get dizzy just looking at them. That's not love. Love is the little girl with tangles in her hair begging you to push her on the swing in the backyard. It's that puppy that isn't trained yet, and will jump up on you with muddy paws and knock you over. Love is the dorky guy who picks you up at the bar and carries you inside, gets you a glass of water, and waits outside until he knows you're okay, never once trying to get into your bed. Love is the everyday walks, the debate over which peanut butter to buy at the grocery store, and Sunday mornings cleaning with a hangover.
Love doesn't wear make up or heels. There is no need to impress or worry or dress up or spend money. Love spends time in a crappy little car where the radio is broken and the windows don't roll down. It's long talks and apple picking and wearing baggy clothes and painting that ugly wall in your dingy little apartment. |
